Earthquakes

1. Where  do earthquakes occur?
   Close to, or on plate margins.

2. What instrument is used to record earthquakes?
   Seismometer, and the energy released is plotted on a seismograph.

3. What is the difference between the Richter Scale and the Mercalli Scale?
   The Richter Scale measures energy teleased.
   The Mercalli Scale measures damage caused (1-12)

4. What caused the Koba earthquake in 1995?
   A movement at a destcuctive plate margin between the Philippine Plate and the Eurasian Plate.

5. What is a tsunami?
   A tsunami is a big wave in the ocean which is formed by an earthquake beneath the seabed. They can cause a large amount of demage in coastal areas.                               

6. It is possible to predict  earthquakes?
   No, it isn't possible. But scientists are searching for the good technique.
